Sea Freight

For larger, heavier or less urgent shipments, sea freight is usually the most economical way to move goods internationally. Keystone Solutions arranges ocean freight for importers and exporters, from full containers to smaller shipments consolidated with other cargo, and manages the whole journey from origin to your door in South Africa.

Choosing between a full container load (FCL) and a less-than-container load (LCL) depends on the volume of your cargo. If you have enough goods to fill a container, FCL gives you exclusive use of the container and generally lower handling risk. For smaller volumes, LCL lets you pay only for the space you use, with your goods consolidated alongside other shipments. We help you work out which is the better value.

Sea freight involves more steps than most people expect: documentation, port and terminal handling, customs clearance, and the inland leg from the port to your premises. Our clearing, forwarding and distribution infrastructure means these steps are coordinated for you, and our centralised operational hub in Johannesburg keeps everything in one place. We also offer in-bond transport, where goods travel under customs control before duty is paid at the destination.

Planning matters with ocean freight, because transit times are longer and schedules can shift. We keep you informed with track and trace and effective communication across all channels, and we will give you realistic timelines up front. Sea Freight FAQs

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (full container load) means you use a whole container for your goods. LCL (less than container load) means your goods share a container with other shipments, and you pay for the space you use. LCL suits smaller volumes.

How long does sea freight take?

Ocean transit takes longer than air, generally weeks rather than days depending on the route and sailing schedule. Allow time for port handling and customs clearance too. We will give you an estimate with your quote.

Can you deliver inland from the port?

Yes. Keystone Solutions offers road freight and in-bond transport so your cargo is delivered inland after clearing.

Do I need to understand Incoterms?

Incoterms define who pays for and carries the risk at each stage of the journey between buyer and seller. We can explain which terms apply to your deal so there are no surprises.

Can you store my goods after they arrive?

Yes. We offer warehousing and storage and a centralised operational hub.
